“Salt, small but meaningful.” This is how we describe the life of salt farmers in Kusamba Fishing Village, a profession that is now gradually disappearing. Through tourism, this tradition can continue to thrive, not only supporting the local economy but also preserving Bali’s cultural heritage.
The village is home to local farmers producing organic sea salt using traditional methods passed down through generations. Salt production depends heavily on sunlight, with up to 10 kilograms produced per day during the dry season (April–October). Unfortunately, the younger generation is reluctant to continue this work, and currently only around 16 families remain active as salt farmers. Without support from tourists and the community, this valuable tradition risks disappearing.
This tour invites visitors not only to observe but also to learn and actively participate in the traditional sea salt-making process, from land preparation to harvesting. The experience offers a deep understanding of the farmers’ hard work and the cultural value embedded in each grain of salt. By joining this tour, travelers contribute to preserving this precious profession, ensuring that it continues to thrive for future generations.
